About Us

Hardacre Planning is an Auckland town planning consultancy specialising in difficult residential and small commercial consent approvals. We became a limited company in 2003, although our experience in this field dates further back then.

Bringing Your Ideas to Life

We have a reputation that walks in the door before we do. But this isn’t about ego. Quite simply, if it’s not worthwhile, we won’t take you on as a client. We are straight shooters and will tell you upfront if you won’t get the desired result.

There is no point in paying our fees, Council fees and all the other costs for the application to be declined. We have done this long enough to know when we are wasting your time.

For us to obtain an excellent outcome, it’s all about communication. This might sound like a simple and generic answer, but it sets us apart. We are problem solvers at the front end of the building process. Let us explain it like this: an architect will create the plans that suit the client, and we will take them from concept to creation by getting through the red tape, obtaining the planning permits, considering the best way to use land, and reducing negative impacts on the community.

Meet our Director, Colin Hardacre.

Colin leads the team at Hardacre Planning, and with nearly 40 years of planning expertise, he’s your go-to when consenting gets challenging. He has the experience, contacts, and knowledge to get your consent.

During his time in the planning industry, Colin has been involved in various projects, from minor residential renovations to major commercial and infrastructure developments. His experience is primarily in the private sector, but he has also spent time with local authorities such as the Auckland City Council, Pukekohe Borough Council, and the Gisborne District Council.

Always up for a planning challenge, Colin enjoys assembling teams of experts to ensure his clients get the results they need to build. Colin has appeared regularly in front of Council Planning Committees. He specialises in resource consent applications, council hearings and appearing as an expert witness in the Environment Court, the High Court, and the Court of Appeal. To his knowledge, he is one of only four planners to have appeared in all three of these Courts.

Before founding Hardacre Planning, Colin worked in the private planning sector and with local authorities. Through this work, Colin has developed contacts across the industry and, with them, an intimate knowledge of who can make things happen for his clients.

Colin holds a Bachelor of Regional Planning from Massey University and is a full member of the New Zealand Planning Institute and the Resource Management Law Association of New Zealand.
